I re-potted my zelkova over the previous weekend, thought I'd post a picture.
I bought this zelkova last summer from Bonsai Northwest (I can never get their name right).
When I got it, it was already very nicely developed. I didn't do any training with it during the summer. I just let it go nuts. After the leaves all fell in the fall, I did some winter pruning. I really should have taken a picture of what it looked like before, especially the hollow. It was a stump! I cut the stump back, and hollowed it out so once it healed it wouldn't leave a big bump. While I was at it, I also took some hardwood cuttings. Those cuttings should have already been planted, but no worries, I'll do it soon.
The root mass had taken up most of the one gallon pot it was in. Pruned the mass back by half and got a nice fat root cutting to work with. After I washed off the roots, I noticed there was a good network of fine roots right by the top. I could have cut it back even more than I did, but I was feeling cautious.
That's all I have for now.
