New Location! So I finally found a place to rent. Had to rehome my dog.
Quick little update:
The crabapple cuttings all died during the summer. They were doing fine, but I neglected them during the summer and they all fried.
I had some success with the trident maple cuttings. Some didn't make it. Oh well! Focus on the positive. Looking back at my comments, I didn't put too much effort or thought into my cuttings, so that I had any success at all only shows how resilient the trident maple are and how good the cuttings are. By next spring, I'll have a few trident cuttings to repot.
The zelkova cuttings were all very tiny. Again, most didn't make it past the summer. Like the crabapple cuttings, even these skinny cutting were doing well until the summer fried them. I did have some success though. With winter fast approaching, I'll be doing some more cuttings of whatever I have soon. Maybe late winter, early spring. For now, time is on my side.
Oh, I forgot that during the summer I trimmed my juniper a little bit. I dipped the clippings in rooting hormone, potted them up, and put them on the bench, and forgot about them. Along with my neglected crab cuttings. However, the juniper cuttings seemed to thrive on the neglect and they appeared to have all taken. I only did about 3 or 4 cuttings.
So my crabs actually put on a bit of girth. Same with the trident maples. Ditto the zelkova. The funny thing is that I lost a few azaleas because of the summer heat. Yeah, I really neglected my trees. But it's not relevant. I didn't care all that much for the azaleas anyways. They were the ones I bought from Home Depot as landscape material, so they were cheap to begin with.
So what did I learn from last year? Summer actually does get warm around here. I'm sure everything would have been fine if I paid more attention during the summer. I also learned that if I pay even a little attention and let my stuff just go nuts, it will gain lots of girth.
So.... yeah. All for now.
