It's end of March. Spring just started but it's still a bit cold. We're still getting a bit of rain. No more freeze danger overnight, though. My bonsai are starting to wake up, but still, not a lot of activity. So I'm sitting here not thinking about anything but thinking about everything at the same time.
I repotted my zelkova on Sunday. The warmer weather means it's begun to bud. This also means I should work my zelkova cuttings soon. Anyways, took some pictures during the repotting. Maybe I'll post them later. Like I said, it's starting to warm up a bit but it's still plenty cold. Meaning repotting was a real chore. I had to wash the roots in very cold water to work the roots. This is the zelkova I purchased last year. The roots were a hot, tangled mess, so I think I caught it just in time. I was happy when I was done. I ended up reducing the root mass by about half. I have a small root cuttings now, and a thick fat root. I planted the fat root hoping I get something from it. The small root cuttings I ziplocked and threw in the fridge for later. I've got nothing to lose by trying.
My Japanese and tridents maples have also begun to wake up. Some need to be repotted, but I'm not feeling it right now. I'm still too cold to work them.
Something else that's been weighing on my mind is my kiln. It's still sitting in the garage, waiting for my first firing. To be honest, our focus has been on trying to find another house, which is why I haven't fired it since buying it. However, I can't just put my whole life in limbo. Eventually I will fire it.
Which brings me back to my original thought. Spring just started, it's not as rainy, but the weather has yet to warm up enough for me to want to tackle things like repotting trees or firing up a kiln. Still can't do anything more than sit here..... and think.... about nothing.
