Started a Couple Avocado Pits

We've all started avocado pits at some point, haven't we? At least I have. Sometimes they take, some times... not so much. I eat my share of avocados, so I decided I'd try my hand at some avocado bonsai. Who knows, maybe they'll work. I don't have much to lose. The avocado pits were leftover from avocados I was eating already. These avocados were tiny, so the pits were tiny:

As most people do when starting avocado pits, I washed off the pits and let them dry overnight. I'm not sure where I read this, as looking through the internet, I can not find anyone else who recommends this, but I remember reading somewhere that they sprout better if you peel off the skins before starting them. So that's what I did:

I then stuck three  toothpicks at an angle near the top, trying hard not to hit the edges of the pit. Remember, the pit seed is actually two halves:

Finally, I stuck the pit in a small jar of water. For those of you that haven't done this before, you want the water to be just at the bottom of the pit:

And that's all there is to it. Just keep in a bright or sunny spot with no direct sunlight, top the jar topped off with water as needed, and with some luck, the pits should sprout in 4-6 weeks. They say that if the pits don't sprout after 8 weeks, toss them out and start all over again. May 8 is the 8 week point.

Instructions for growing out are as follow:
Once the stem reaches six inches, cut back to three inches.  Allow to grow to ten inches, plant in soil, and cut back to five inches.  Keep pinching back to create a bushy plant.

I don't know if I'll be following these instructions, exactly. I will likely allow the plant to grow long, while wiring to shape. Cute dragon avocado bonsai anyone? LOL! Time will tell.

While I'm at it: I've been giving my indoor pre-bonsai a dishwash detergent spray almost weekly, just to keep the bugs at bay. I've also started giving them miracle grow at full strength.

That's all I have for now.
