Time for a status check, what am I growing, how's it growing:
Juniper:
I think I have one juniper, maybe two. These are cuttings and have been relegated to the 'leave it alone' section. Meaning maybe they're still alive, but I'm not holding my breath.
Oh yeah, I do have that one juniper I bought last year from San Grabriel Nursery. It's doing great.
Chinese Elm:
I have a Caitlin Chinese elm I bought from S.G.N. last year, from which I took several root cuttings earlier this year. some have begun to take, meaning I've started to see some leaves.
I usually have some seedlings that are blown in by the wind. I took two seedlings and started a tanuki bonsai on an old dead Chinese elm.
I also have a couple seedlings that I'm letting grow.
Ficus:
I've had great success with F. retusa. I've been growing from cuttings and they usually grow *GREAT*! So great in fact that I can hardly keep any around. I almost always find good homes for them by mostly giving them away to friends and associates at work.
Other items:
Cactus/succulent
I don't know what this one is called, it's similar to a jade, only the leaves are more stubby pencil shaped, like fingers. I started with one, and I've been removing the occassional finger and they grow great!
Yam/Sweet potato
So I had a yam that I made into a bonsai. From that a vine grew. I planted that vine and its still growing in my little garden area.
Wheat Grass
To help keep the costs of feed in check, I've been growing wheat grass for my guinea pigs. We've been calling it 'closet grass' as I start the wheat the first week in the closet. Once it gets about six inches tall, I move it outside. Fun stuff! I hear it's also very healthy for you.
