So what we have here is a failure to communicate.
Dunno why I'm starting with that. That was in my head and I fealt it important that I get that out.
Funny story:
To this day, I enjoy acting stupid with my brother. I'll often call him and leave short, idiotic messages on his phone. It's a brother thing, what can I say?
So last night I texted him a message: CACA! CACA! This was followed later with The same message on his voice mail.
This morning, I was talking to my mom on the phone. She tells me she was talking to my brother late the night before. He was outside and complaining about how dark it was, couldn't see his hand in front of his face, etc. Suddenly, he stepped in a pile of poo. I laughed at this news and I told my mom about my CACA messages to my brother earlier in the evening. She got the irony and started laughing, but now we're convinced that my brother (if he puts two and two together) will blame me for putting the caca curse on him. I sure hope he does! I wouldn't mind it if people started to believe I can throw poo hexes at will! Sure beats monkeys tossing poo, but at the same time relegates me to the lower primates, as I'm still just a poo flinging chimp.
There's been a bit of a delay in getting my pottery finished. I did finish some, just not all of it. And I did a bit more over the weekend and I'm now waiting for them to come out of the kiln. I was able to finish my two dragon cups, my little dragon, my jack skellingtons, the High Priest Mogwai's Dragon Spear and my octopi. In the kiln for glaze firing this week are some of the slug dragons and clay amigurumi, the High Priest Mogwai himself, Cthulhu, and maybe a couple items that are escaping my mind. I'm also bisque firing more pottery.
The dragon cups- One is just a small goblet with chicken feet, dipped in white and woo blue cone 10 glaze. That one appears to have been standing too close to the fire, as part of the glaze did not reduce too much. I ended up with a goblet that was almost a two tone. Very nice effect, nonetheless.
The second one is a bit larger goblet, with chicken feet, wings, and a spikey tail. Very similar to the one I gave my brother for Christmas. I used the same copper red, as a matter of fact. The wings remained intact, and the glaze fired up nice and blood red. No two-toning on this one this time!
The High Priest Mogwai's Dragon Spear came out pretty nice, I think. The spear is supposed to look sort of like a dragon's skull mounted on a unicorn's horn. A sort of ceremonial spear, but fully functional. A symbol of power, and a trophy from various hard won battles. I used Concept's black and Concept's White underglaze to create a look of bleached bones. The black was used to bring out the details of the piece. I'm not done with it, as I wanted to attache a small patch of fur and a couple of small feathers to it, to finish off the 'High Priest's Spear' look. I'm also anxious to see how it will look with the finished Mogwai.
The jack skellington heads, and there's several of them, were done in the same Concepts black and white, but I then added a raku crackle glaze and raku'd them. I wanted to give them a weathered look, but they look more like they're relics of some big explosion or catastrophe. Perhaps a bit more scrubbing will help. Aaron's Jack skellington was a low fire clay, so I didn't raku it, I stopped at the concepts black and white. In a way, I like his better.
Also fresh out of the kiln is a small dragon, stoneware clay and cone 10 woo blue glaze. Aaron dipped this dragon in the woo blue glaze and it came out pretty sharp, I think.
All this talk about stuff coming out of the kiln- where's the pictures?!! I'll get around to posting pictures some day, I think. Maybe.
I posted a few more bonsai to my Etsy shop. As soon as I take some clicky clicky's, I'll post more of my stuff to Etsy. 'Til then, ciao!
