I'm looking to create a bonsai pot that resembles an upside down mushroom or a cup, being held up by a tree or tree-like hand. Something that looks organic, living, a small force of nature or the representation of the natural spirit.
This is a recurring theme for me, but I'm failing to produce what I'm looking to create. I tried again last night and I think I failed yet again. I shouldn't use the word 'fail', as it's not a failure per se, it's just not representative of what is in my mind's eye.
Maybe what I need to do is step away from mushroom thing and concentrate on something else.
My octopi came out of the kiln. I get to glaze them this weekend. YAY!
I also have a bunch of clay amigurumi that just came out of the kiln. How fun!
Oh! One thing that I'm finding extremely amusing- Cthulhu. It's on the verge of obession, I tell ya!
From Wikipedia:
Cthulhu is one of the central Great Old Ones of H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. It is often cited for the extreme descriptions given of its hideous appearance, its gargantuan size, and the abject terror that it evokes. Cthulhu is often referred to in science fiction and fantasy circles as a tongue-in-cheek shorthand for extreme horror or evil.
Description (thanks Wiki):
The most detailed descriptions of Cthulhu in "The Call of Cthulhu" are based on statues of the creature. One, constructed by an artist after a series of baleful dreams, is said to have "yielded simultaneous pictures of an octopus, a dragon, and a human caricature.... A pulpy, tentacled head surmounted a grotesque and scaly body with rudimentary wings."[6] Another, recovered by police from a raid on a murderous cult, "represented a monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopus-like head whose face was a mass of feelers, a scaly, rubbery-looking body, prodigious claws on hind and fore feet, and long, narrow wings behind."[7]
This thing has an octopus puss with giant (lobster-like?) claws, long wings and a scaly, rubbery body!
Extreme horror/evil octopus/dragon... HOLY COW! I really did hit it when I called that one Raku Mogwai 'Servant of Cthulhu'... yeah, I love Cthulhu. I love how it sounds- Kuh-THOO-loo
yes, I know that the real Cthulhu would sooner obliterate me, tear me limb from limb and leave me in exquisite pain and suffering for all of eternity than look at me. I also know that a real dragon would unleash hell upon earth if ever there was one, yet I love dragons.
