The Fairy Fest has come and gone, but I still have some fairy dust in my eyes. :)I haven't been very productive this month. I've done a few items, but they're somewhat far between each. However, the pieces I'm making are more inspired. One of the pieces I did was this fat, frog dragon thing. I started with the big belly from the goldfish, but instead of adding fins, I added long, fat frog legs and bat wings which are much too short to do any good. To emphasize that fat belly and fat legs, I added short fat arms. This little bugger had such a big mouth that I decided that its hands should be stretched out in a sort of 'feed me' gesture. This is the same gesture my kids make when they want something, or are confused. I added a long, spikey dragon tail as I felt this was fitting the wings. To give it an aquatic look, I ended the tail with a shark tail like split. Finally, I decided that the eyes should be on stalks. I glazed it this weekend, so we'll see soon. All weekend long I've had Chinese Phoenix on my mind. And by all weekend long, I mean the past two weeks. I've been trying to figure out how to express this, but I'm having one helluva time finding images of Chinese Phoenix to inspire me. I still haven't found much. Among the few other items I did on Sunday, I made this one mog bonsai pot through which I expressed my frustration with not finding any Chinese Phoenix. I really wanted to find Phoenix feet that were long, thin and graceful. Instead, this little mog found itself sitting atop tall, oversized and overthick chicken feet. Perfect! Borrowing a page from my frog dragon, I added smallish dragon wings and to help balance the pot, a longish spiky dragon tail. To help add to the phoenix look, I made the scales on the end of the tail long and thin, sort of like feathers. It doesn't look like a phoenix, but it's definitely a fun mog! I'm definitely enjoying my clay. I'm doing it more for myself, without much regard to the marketability. Oh hell, let's be honest here, there is NO market! LOL! Everyone is feeling the pinch and everyone is holding tightly to whatever funds they have. So that is my muse, my inspiration: I create for me.
