Reflecting back on that first paragraph of my last entry:Ideas beget ideas. Creativity springs forth from a single spark, that single spark that can lead to a forest fire, stokes the flames and fires the engines that keep me going. For the past two weeks I've been making dragons out of paper clay. That single spark of inspiration that ignites a forest fire of creativity is alive and I am consumed by the flames of creation in this. I've only done a few dragons, but it's that initial spark. The first dragon was a larger dragon. I tried doing this one with no armature, but it didn't turn out so good. The second dragon was a smaller dragon; I used paper clips and florist wire to create an armature. This one came out better. I showed this dragon to Mishy. She showed me a few of her paper clay projects. These projects gave me more ideas. Ideas beget ideas. I was playing with the clay, comparing the difference in liquidity of the paper clay, the pugged clay, and the low-fire clay. Seems the pugged clay was more firm with this batch but it doesn't feel as plastic as the low-fire clay. Playing with the pugged clay resulted in a twisty horn. I made another to have a pair (I thought maybe I could use these for Halloween). The horns were both twisty and curvy, so I decided to make a sort of bonsai tree based on the horn shape, but with branches. This came out okay, so I decided to make a sort of fairy-castle thing, based on the twisty bonsai tree shape. Next I made a goblet. It has this twisty tree-like shape, with three branches coming out at the top. These three branches cradle the cup. I then did a really fast dragon, dipping a shaped pipe cleaner into some paper clay slip. I next did a fast fairy. I kept my pipe cleaner creations on the thin side. I didn't want a thick clay layer, and I wanted to keep some of the pipe cleaner texture. I'm almost done with these, I just need to find some lace for the wings.Ideas beget ideas. Looking at that first armature dragon, I wasn't happy with the feet, so I shaped feet out of florist wire with a thin clay slip coating. Yes, this looked better!Aaron asked me to help him make a dragon. This means he wants me to make one for him, more or less. I'm almost finished with his dragon, I just have to cover the wings. I think I'll use some clay slip dipped gauze or lace for the wings.Ideas beget ideas. Creativity springs from but a single spark. Creation of that single spark leads to a forest fire of thoughts, ideas, an entire army of muses marching from the glowing embers. Embers of that single spark or creativity. These muses work feverishly, stoking the flames that burn in my belly, adding fire to the engines that keep me going.
